The team at Strategic Equity Group has experience in a broad range of services, including investment banking, business valuation, bankruptcy advisory, and other financial advisory services. SEG’s senior management is supported by a professional staff of senior analysts in the Orange Country and Los Angeles offices.

Michael

Mike oversees merger, acquisition, valuation, and corporate finance projects. He is responsible for corporate development and project management.

Active in advising both buyers and sellers of privately held businesses since 1986, he has represented companies in many diverse industries. Mike has a particular expertise in representing companies where a large publicly traded company is the buyer.

Mike has prepared financial opinions addressing the value of common and preferred stock, various debt securities, the fairness of certain transactions, and value of a wide variety of intellectual property including software, trademarks, patents, and relationship assets. He has prepared opinions for a variety of purposes including corporate dissolutions, estate and gift tax matters, employee stock ownership plans, acquisitions and divestitures, and purchase price allocation.

Mike began his professional career at Arthur Young & Company, (Ernst & Young) in the audit practice. He has held a number of senior financial and operational management positions in both public and private enterprises. His experience encompasses a wide variety of industries including manufacturing, logistics, casino gaming and hotel operations, oil and gas, MCO resources, FNC (ASE:MCR), retail, construction, and consumer products.

Mike received his undergraduate degree from California Polytechnic State University San Luis Obispo, and became a certified public accountant (CPA) in 1981. He is accredited in business valuation by the AICPA (ABV). Mr. Ellington is a Certified Director (CD) by UCLA/The Anderson School of Management. He holds Series 7, 63, 24, 27, and 79 Securities Licenses.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is also an active member of the Association for Corporate Growth, and The Los Angeles Venture Association.

Mike resides as a member of the Board of Directors for the following firms: In-Three Inc. and Ernst & Young Alumni Association, Los Angeles Office.

Chris
Christopher A. Kramer

Chris brings to SEG and its clients over 15 years of financial advisory and investment banking experience. He has extensive expertise in structuring and negotiating transactions across a wide variety of industries, and has prepared financial opinions addressing the value of common and preferred stock, various debt securities, intangible assets of all types, the fairness of certain transactions, and the value of a wide variety of non-traditional types of assets.

Prior to joining SEG, Chris was the director of financial opinions for Pacific Corporate Group, a private equity advisory firm, and spent over five years with Marshall and Stevens, Inc., a national valuation firm. He has also held positions as a commercial loan analyst for a major southern California S & L, and various positions in the insurance, advertising, and retail industries.

He is past president of the Los Angeles Chapter of the Young Entrepreneurs Organization, and has been a part-time lecturer at California State University, Long Beach in the Finance Department. He has spoken before various groups of attorneys, accountants, and business owners.

Chris earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from California State University, Northridge, and his MBA with a Finance concentration from the University of Southern California. He holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, and is an Accredited Senior Member of the American Society of Appraisers (ASA).

As a Director, Jill is a valuation specialist who brings to SEG over fifteen years of valuation experience in business and intangible asset valuation, financial analysis, and project management.

Prior to joining SEG, Jill spent twelve years focused on valuation as a Senior Manager with Deloitte’s Financial Advisory Services Group in their Los Angeles office and more recently as a valuation professional with Cronkite & Kissell, a valuation advisory firm in Southern California. During this time, she managed a variety of valuation projects including those performed for financial reporting and tax compliance under the guidance of ASC 350, 805, and 718, as well as IRC 409A. In addition, she executed various engagements related to transactional services, litigation support, debt and equity valuations, and estate and gift planning. Prior to joining Deloitte in 2000, Jill spent six years in commercial and securitized lending where she initiated, underwrote, and managed a portfolio of middle market financings and performed valuation work related to the securitization of such loans.

She has experience consulting with businesses of varying sizes and in a wide range of industries including manufacturing, retail, real estate, consumer products and technology.

Jill earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) and a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the UCLA Anderson Graduate School of Management.

Michael is responsible for financial analysis and modeling, company and industry research, and preparation of valuation reports. Michael works directly with our Directors and Analysts in the valuation of employee stock ownership plans, purchase price allocations, preferred stock valuations, fairness opinions, and other services provided by SEG

Michael graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, Real Estate & Law from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona. During his undergraduate studies, he competed in the CFA Institute Research Challenge where he conducted discounted cash flows financial analysis and relative valuation. Along with the team he led, Michael was awarded first place at the local level. He is currently a CFA Level I candidate.

Chase Hoover

As a Senior Analyst with SEG, Chase assists with valuation analysis and other financial advisory services. Chase is responsible for extensive financial modeling and analysis, market research and strategic industry evaluation, merger & acquisition advisory services, and preparation of detailed valuation reports. Chase works directly with our Managers and Analysts in the valuation of common and preferred equity interests, various debt securities, executive compensation packages, purchase price allocations, and other services provided by SEG

Chase graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Economics from Chapman University. During his undergraduate studies, in addition to serving as the Treasurer of a national fraternity organization, he helped oversee the equity portion of the Student Managed Investment Fund, an actively managed portfolio of U.S. equity & fixed income investments. Chase holds Series 63 & 79 Securities Licenses, and he is currently a Level III Candidate in the CFA Program.

Matt Williams

As an Analyst with SEG, Matt assists with valuation analysis and other financial advisory services. Matt is responsible for financial analysis and modeling, company and industry research, merger & acquisition advisory services, and preparation of valuation reports. Matt works directly with our Managers and Senior Analysts in the valuation of employee stock ownership plans, purchase price allocations, preferred stock valuations, fairness opinions, and other services provided by SEG. 

Matt graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from California State University, Fullerton. While a full time student, he participated in a student managed investment fund that presented ideas regarding asset allocation and investment management strategies to the Chartered Financial Analyst Society of Orange County. He also co-founded a school funded club aimed at interviewing business executives to gain more realistic expectations and recommendations for his fellow business students. Aside from school obligations, Matt previously worked in real estate valuation in North San Diego. Matt is currently a Level II Candidate in the CFA Program.

As an Analyst with SEG, Michael performs in-depth industry, economic, and financial research, financial analysis and modeling, and prepares detailed valuation reports. Michael works closely with our Directors, Managers and other Analysts in the valuation of employee stock ownership plans, purchase price allocations, preferred stock valuations, and other services provided by SEG.

Michael graduated from San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. During his undergraduate studies, he was a member of the Finance and Investment Society as well as the Real Estate Society, where he was able to build relationships with members of the San Diego business community. Prior to joining SEG, Michael worked as an analyst and underwriter in the specialty finance division of a federally chartered bank in San Diego. Michael relocated to Orange County in 2017 and passed Level I of the CFA Program in December 2016.
